INSURANCE INFORMATION
Here you can find out more about what the Amherst College Insurance does and does not cover.
WHAT IS MY INSURANCE PLAN?
If you're covered by Amherst College insurance, you're under Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Your plan is Blue Care Elect Preferred.
HOW MUCH ARE GYNECOLOGICAL EXAMS?
If you're going to the Amherst health center, or another center that is "in network," then it's free to go and get related lab tests once per year. If you go for a check up out of network, then it's 20% coinsurance after deductible.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM?
$250. This also covers the cost of the ambulance transportation.
DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A SPECIALIST?
No. If you need to see someone specific at the UMass health center, or elsewhere, you don't need a referral appointment at Keefe beforehand.
HOW MUCH DOES BIRTH CONTROL COST?
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) are free. To see a full list of the specific oral contraceptives that are covered by your insurance, visit this link.

Other forms of birth control, such as long-term implants, are also free. IUDs (intrauterine devices, which can be either copper or hormonal) and Nexplanon (which is inserted into your arm) are covered by this plan.
